10-29-23 NCNWTF Board Meeting

Tim opened with welcome and thank you for all that helped with the Shindig the night prior.

Ken M led the group with invocation. 

Brent presented minutes from prior meeting. A change needed to be made to page 3 from Ken to Perry. Ken made a motion to accept 2nd, from Kenneth. Motion passed. 

Henry presented the financial report. Ken with Motion to accept, 2nd by John. Motion passed. 

Hannah had 12 proposals from WRC totaling just over 100K. We asked that all acres impacted need to be recorded. Cully sent his support of all 12 projects requested. The monies requested would be matched 6 to 1. Bill made a motion to accept all 12 projects, with a 2nd from Robert. Motion passed. No info currently available on 2023 brood survey. The new role out of the WRC online “Go Outdoors” app is experiencing lots of issues that WRC hopes to get worked out soon. 

 Tim presented Cully’s report. Cully attended the synopsis in WV that focused on grouse and turkey. Focus going forward will be Habitat for the Hatch with a 10-year plan implemented. 

Trey presented next with the RD report. Net revenue for 2023 fiscal year is up from the year prior. He also distributed the core package books for this banquet season. They are working on several new chapters or reopening chapters that have folded but have new interest is in the area., Red Clay, Ed Andrews and Wilson are some that show strong interest. Help was asked for from the board to make these successful. NWTF is looking to fill a new RD position in the western part of NC. All chapters need to be prepared for EMS training as all events will eventually be asked to use. Zoom meetings hope to be ready by Dec 23. This must be used per the national board. 

Tim presented next with a reminder that the seed subsidy program was in a one-year moratorium. Chufa was not included in this, and we would continue to subsidize the chufa. If wanted, we would revisit at summer 24 board meeting.

All December Raffle tickets need to be in Henrys hand by 11-15-23. Calendars all need to be in Treys hands by 12-24-23. 

Ted presented that all Scholarships must be in by Feb 15th. All the material is available online. The state winner must be in by 3-1-24. Also presented that the call makers committee was working on some new ideas to better or call makers contest held at Dixie Deer Classic. 

Brent then presented with Zac an update on the museum. Zac will send all board members an email with a sample of letter going to prospective donors. The date of dedication will be 1-13-24 at location. More info will be made available as it becomes available.  The NCNWTF Tarheel open will be held again at the Dixie deer classic, Tim will follow up to see if same room can be used again. Volunteers will be asked for help. 

Richard presented on upcoming board election coming in 1-2024. There are 3 accepted nominations for 2 spots so full board election will be needed. 

Outreach. A wito coordinator is needed. Anyone interested needs to make contact. Perry then held floor and challenged all chapters to step up with our outreach programs. We are no longer affiliated with the Pirates classic in any way due to conflicts and circumstances beyond NWTF control. 

Ted started the new business with announcement of the date for the Frogman event, 6-1-2024 in Jacksonville NC. More info to follow with a zoom meeting with Terry Campbell set up. All hands will be needed to pull off this large event with focus on new members. A banquet will be held in Jacksonville that night. 

Brent asked was their interest in NCNWTF holding its own turkey hunting 101 seminar. A date of sometime in March possibly at a central location? Brent will try and see options for event locations and report at next board meeting. 

Wildlife officer of the year will be giving to District 6 officer Sampson Parker at the awards dinner held 1-13-24 at Burmill park in Greensboro NC.

Richard updated that Roger Lathem Award nominees had been submitted and that Davidson Co would be recognized for their JAKES event at convention. 

Board meeting dates tentatively are for Jan @ Burmill park, March @ Dixie Deer, June @ frogman event in Jacksonville and TBA @ 2024 fall shindig
